Chemical Dependency is a disease that debilitates the human mind, body, and spirit. Recovery is so much more than feeling better. It means seeing ourselves and the world around us in a new way.
At The Gooden Center we believe that within each person there is a vision of complete freedom. It is something drugs and alcohol falsely promise to deliver.
As most of our patients start their recovery they glimpse this vision. They begin to find within themselves a natural state of well being. In the freedom from dependency, they find the courage to be themselves.
Treatment Philosophy
Our treatment philosophy is a client centered and move at your own pace type of treatment philosophy. We like the client to collaborate with the counselors to develop goals that will set the structure for their present care and future.
We create a treatment plan that will help promote stability and eventually a routine that will allow for recovery to take place. The Gooden Center philosophy incorporates a collaboration with the client to help construct what their treatment plan would look like in order to foster a sense of personal involvement in their own recovery.
Day Treatment
Day Treatment is available for patients who have completed Residential treatment or who are assessed as needing some regular intensive clinical intervention while beginning to reintegrate into their daily routines. Patients in this level of care attend up to 6 hours per day of treatment groups and activities.
We utilize an Adult Learning Model approach that treats the client as an equal and draws upon the individual’s best way of learning (listening, watching, doing, etc.). Individuals continue to work with their counselor to develop an individualized treatment plan and participate in the Family Program.
Intensive Outpatient Treatment
Intensive Outpatient Treatment is available for patients who have completed Day treatment or who are assessed as needing a lower level of care while on leave from work, going back to work, or enrolling in school. Clients in this level of care attend 3 hour sessions in the morning or evening to work on the development of coping skills, learning about emotional sobriety, and practicing abstinence while living their daily routine.
We also use the Adult Learning Model for this level of care and the program includes:
- Individualized treatment planning
- Case management
- Family counseling
- Education
- Process groups
Individuals on this level of care have the flexibility of working or attending school while having being accountable for their recovery.
Family Treatment
Family is really important to us and we like to promote positive interaction as much as we possibly can. When a client enters treatment their family is often very worried and afraid of the unknown. Our ethos is to build a family oriented atmosphere.
Rebuilding relationships on the way to recovery is an important concept that The Gooden Center feels can help a client’s recovery process. We look to incorporate the family in ways that will not only give the client motivation to continue on the path to recovery, but also provide them with the support that will re-affirm that they are doing the right thing.
Groups and Activities
Groups and activities are an integral part of the recovery process and are specifically designed to involve the clients in their own recovery. The reality is that what works best is when the client participates in their own process of recovery, and it is our job to help the client see the value of the recovery process.
We like to have our clients experience the transformation process that group and one-on-one counseling sessions offer. Exercise, both mental and physical are an important in the process of recovery and can help each client transition into sobriety. It is an experience that will change the life of those that are willing to accept the help that is offered.
Residential Treatment
Residential Treatment, our most intensive level of care, takes place at the Bishop Gooden Home. Through addiction education groups, process groups, and individual counseling the patient learns about the disease of chemical dependency.
He learns to enhance coping mechanisms, strengthen impulse control, and improve communication skills. He learns to deal with relapse triggers and work through emotional and spiritual barriers. Counselors use a case management approach to treat the whole person. The family is involved as early and often as is beneficial to the family system.
Sober Living
Sober living is a structured living environment that many patients and families find beneficial as an individual in early recovery gets back into his daily routine. In this environment patients are held accountable to continue to strengthen their recovery program through regular 12 step meeting attendance, sponsorship, part-time work or school hours, and regular drug testing.
A patient in sober living can build his support network by utilizing the sober community around him as he learns to navigate the challenges of early sobriety. All Gooden Center sober living facilities have live-in house managers who are available to help guide their residents through the waters of early sobriety.
