Choosing a place to begin one’s drug and alcohol rehab can be confusing.  One of the reasons The Gooden Center is among the best programs for men is our “client – centered” care.  Program centered treatment occurs when the client must conform to the program (duration, structure). With client-centered care, however, each person moves through treatment at his own pace.  As with any disease, one size does not fit all.

The needs of our clients drive the organization and its focus.  Clients collaborate with their counselors and peers to develop individualized goals, which become the blueprint for their care here and beyond. Being a co-architect helps the client become more actively involved in the successful building of his foundation.

When you or your loved one is assessed as part of the intake procedure, our clinical staff will recommend a treatment option that is most appropriate.  We use the guidelines established by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (A.S.A.M.).

Based on over 44 years of helping men recover from chemical dependency, we base our program on six goals:

    • Provide every client with a thorough and in-depth array of educational groups and activities that accomplish learning around addiction, relapse prevention, emotional honesty and other core principles of Alcoholics Anonymous.
    • Assist the client who is not employed or in school with getting a job or enrolling in studies concurrent with his treatment.
    • Give family members education, support and counseling as they engage in their own process of recovery.
    • Surround clients with a nurturing homelike atmosphere with a compassionate staff, fellowship, a clean comfortable residence, good food, and recreation.

Support clients in their personal exploration of a spiritual practice that will sustain them in good times and bad.

Help clients become grounded in the powerfully effective program of Alcoholics Anonymous or other appropriate program based on the 12 steps.

Through diligent effort with the goals above, we are confident our clients will attain the penultimate goal: lasting sobriety and continuous recovery.
