Women’s Auxiliary Given New Life

“Late this past summer a group of 20 women in the Pasadena area organized a Pasadena Auxiliary to the Bishop Gooden Home . . .” is how an October 1966 newspaper article began.

“Early this past summer a group of 15 women in the Pasadena area organized a Women’s Auxiliary to The Gooden Center. . .” is how the news reads today!

Later the 1966 article reads “The auxiliary was established chiefly to assist the men’s committee of the BGH in a fundraising capacity and to lend members’ talents in the library, for garden needs and furnishings at the home as needs arise.”

All through this summer the renewed Auxiliary has been busy making plans – and following through on those plans – the put The Gooden Center facilities into top shape for its upcoming 50th Anniversary celebration.

The living room of the Bishop Gooden Home – the flagship house – now has a new ceiling with recessed lighting, new paint, and carpet removed to expose a newly refinished hardwood floor.  The original floor and wall tiles of the guest bath have been acid washed.  Tables in the dining room were stripped and refinished.

We at The Gooden Center are excited by the vitality of these women and the gifts of time and talents they are sharing with us!
